    Your NE67 Finish

My NE67 finish was this last march 18th on Owl's head at midnight after a snow fall, by moonlight, without using the headlamp. Whacked the black pond trail without finding the herd path and broke trail to summit, it was much longer than I thought. The next day and 5 hours after I finished the...

Moosilauke from Beaver Brook trail 2016/03/19

Started with hardpack snow and then hard ice up the slopes. Freshly sharpened hill sounds were fine for both climbing and descending, but someone would prefer crampons or avoid the trail altogether. The summit was rocks and ice. On the way up, we didn't see the sign turning right south of Mount...

These last 7 are going to be a PITA

The way to go if you want to peakbag as fast as possible is: -plan very well all your summits, escape routes, maps and backups, read trail conditions, you don't want to be inefficient once there -fill your car with food for the whole weekend -bring all the gear you have for all possible...

New England 67 in 1 winter season

TEO, we've learned from our mistakes. Our intent was not to break park rules and I don't even know if we did, I will call them. Next time we'll discuss with them how to change plan in case things don't go as planned like it just did and we'll all get solo permits if necessary. Trying to peakbag...

New England 67 in 1 winter season

Glad to have met you too! That's a huge bummer for North Brother, you could have been done with it, really hope you can summit in time. I got scared of getting kicked out too after hearing your story. We did have a tent spot reservation, but my friend wanted to do it in a single push and head to...

New England 67 in 1 winter season

We leave saturday 3am from Abol Parking, summit Katahdin and Hamlin via Abol slide, walk the tote road, bivy at Foster Field or Slide Dam and head early for North Brother taking the Marston trail. If we feel good and there is time, we'll do Fort to Coe and descend the OJI. 45 miles total, not...

New England 67 in 1 winter season

Wow I didn't realise it was you! I was aware of your incredible SS-NEHH and when Arm mentioned it, I didn't catch the SS part or was too sleep deprived to connect the dots :P I'm pretty sure the NEHH is a much harder goal! Thanks for the tips at the time, it gave me confidence to jump down the...

Lyon Mtn ADK, South Peak 3,365 - Approach?

Spencer, did you end up going to south peak? I went to Averill last November, didn't know there was a herd path from the communication tower. It was a pretty nasty whack, 30 minutes for 800ft of very dense and blown down spruce! I was wondering if South Peak was similar, it looks much longer.

    Edmunds Col Fatality

With his experienced, I assumed he had a heart attack. This can lead to incapacitate someone and make them succomb to hypothermia. Without an autopsy it would be hard to figure anything at this time. Other than crampons, helmets, solo hiking, it begs the question about carrying a BPL/sat phone.
