    Colvin-Blake Trip Report 03-05-06

Great to meet your crew! Andrew: It was great to meet your crew. We had a great day - probably one of the best of this winter season. The boys certainly did enjoy the butt slides and the ski out. We had to finish it off with a trip to the Noonmark Dinner. Hope to see you again on the trail. :)

    Santanoni Wrap up - 2/24-26/6

Thanks Tom We had planned this trip and counted on joining a large group for safety reasons. We stayed at the lean-too overnight for an early start and found the trail in good shape to Time Square. We were aware that there were some hikers in front of us but we were all following a good trail...

Camping for Santa Trip We have 3 going in Friday during the day to camp overnight either at the Lean-Too or around the otherside of Bradley Pond before you start up Panther Brook. We plan on going for all three if the weather holds and we don't take to many unintended side trips. We will have...

Donaldson and Emmons via Calkins Brook

Trail conditions excellent for this time of year. Gate is open and road very passable. Trail was easy to follow to the col then drifts made it a little tougher but could follow the tracks of previous hikers. The path to Seward is questionable - another group tried but failed to make it to the...

    Snow Conditions In the Sewards?

I'll Answer my Post We hiked Donalson and Emmons vis Caulkins Brook on 2/11. Found snow conditions excellent for this time of year. Trail has been rebroke to Emmons but Seward is questionable. Another group tried and could not locate the herd path from this side. If you need these for your...

Big Slide in Winter- Crampons Needed?

Big Slide 02/05/2006 We hiked Big Slide via The Brothers on Sunday. The first part of the trail you could bareboot for about a mile then you would run into sections of ice (we used crampons). On the exposed rock ledges you could bareboot again until after the Second Brother at that point we...

Big Slide - Feb. 5th We will be taking a shot at Big Slide via the Brothers on Feb. 5th. Check for our post after the hike for a report on conditions. We are taking all gear - both snowshoes and crampons just in case. We plan on traveling both directions over the Brothers - thinking that...

    Santanonis - Group Trip - 2/24/6 Weekend

Room for Two More Hikers? Just checking to see if you have room for 2 more in the group and still keep the group size to 15. We would meet at the trail head and do not need overnight quarters. We have been to the Santanonis about 1 1/2 years ago in summer. We are working on our Winter 46 and...

    Ski Binding for Koflachs

Does anyone know of a Ski Binding that can be used with Koflachs? I presently use these boots for Snowshoe and Crampons and it would be nice to use them with my Backcountry Skis.

    Which snowshoes with Koflachs boots?

Snow Shoes I've used my Koflachs with both the Denali and the Evo MSR Shoes and have had real good luck. For climbing I always use the lifter otherwise the stress on my ankle gets to be a bit much. I would like to know if anyone has found a ski binding that can be used with Koflachs. That...

Where to Hike for Sunday 11/20/05?

I'm taking a group of Scouts for a day hike on 11/20/05. Most are fairly experienced. We had planned on Porter from the Garden (was wondering about hunters in that area). Another option was Noonmark but I read a recent posting and it looks to be a tough one due to ice and mud? Looking at the...

    Pharaoh lake (NY) hiking conditions

Trail Conditions ? I was in that area from the south - Spring 2005 - From the parking area to the trail has been flooded for the past few years. I suspect a beaver dam is the problem. It is probably a few hundred feet of swamp and a deep water section that you would have to cross. An option...

Bees on the Osseo to Flume 8/26

I Hate Bees I was on a 20 mile hike with a group of Boy Scouts a couple of years ago in late September. I'm always at the end of the line encouraging the stragglers. My son was up front and jammed his hiking pole into a nest without knowing. It was just statrting to get light out and fairly...

I'm looking to do the Pemi Loop clockwise over a three day backpack trip. My hope is to make Garfield Shelter on day one over Franconia Ridge. Day two at Guyot and day three out the Bonds. If we have any juice left we were planning to stay another night and climb Owl Head for a total of 13...

    Planning for White Mountains

Thanks for the Input Like I said - I'm in the planning stage at this point - looks like a lot of good suggestions - I'll have to sit down when I get some time and see what they look like on a map. I haven't gotten myself oriented to the layout of these peaks yet but I'm certain your info will...

    Boys Scout's have a problem

As a Scout Leader I've been involved in Boy Scouts as a leader for about 10 years. I would have to admit that there are groups out on trips that are not well prepared and do not follow LNT programs as they should. I have been fortunate enough to be a hiker and backpacker for over 40 years and...
