I hit the trail for trail work. The parking lot had a swarm of black flies but ZI had no problems at all for the rest of the day. The alpine area was very breezy.
Of note, there are not any cones in the red or black spruce trees. I did not hear a single red squirrel. No thrushes no nuthatches. There were 1-2 Black throated blue warblers and a few Black throated green warblers. 1-2 red eyed vireos, plenty of blackpolls, yellow rumped and magnolias, a flock of boreal chickadees in the alpine forest. plenty of juncos and white throated sparrows. I also had 1-2 yellow bellied flycatchers and golden crowned kinglets. I was expecting more birds. However, I was there for trail work and did not linger.
There were 3-4 blowdowns, single trunck across the trail on the lower section. Has anyone else noticed alot of blowdowns this year is it pretty normal?
