According to an AP news report, New Hampshire authorities say a hiker has died after falling and being swept down a river. Fish and Game Department Lt. Jim Goss says 64-year-old Wilfred Chalut of Hudsonville, Mich., was hiking Friday afternoon along Sabbaday Falls in Waterville Valley with his family (Sabbaday Falls is located 3.5 miles west of where Bear Notch Road joins the Kancamagus Highway). Goss says it was raining and Chalut slipped and fell into the Swift River. Crews were not able to find him. Goss said crews resumed their search Saturday and found him dead at about 9:45 a.m., caught up in debris in the center of the river.
