Trails: Carter-Moriah Trail

Conditions: Snow. There is a good, albeit thin, base of snow on the trail from start to finish. The trail is in great shape with no obstacles (someone has done a wonderful job of clearing blowdowns). Very little exposed ice.

Special Equipment: I would recommend microspikes right now, though people with surer footing may be able to get by with bare boots. The snow was firm and consolidated enough for us to just use the ‘spikes, but any additional snowfall will necessitate snowshoes to build up a nice solid trail.

Comments: I wish I had brought my little sled. There was enough snow that I could have had a wonderful ride down the mountain. Alas I had left it behind. I also got to celebrate the completion of my Winter 48 list with a small bottle of Veuve Cliquot, carried up by my hiking-wife, Anne.
