Trails: Notch Trail: in good shape, maintainers have been doing a good job; one new blowdown early on.
Mahoosuc Trail: no major obstacles (other than the Notch itself!!).
Grafton Loop Trail (west): footbed smoother for the most part, than the rocky Mahoosuc..maybe a half dozen obstacle blowdowns on the entire trail..checked out all 4 campsites on this trail. low water at Sargent Brook, all others pretty good...if I had to choose one to camp it would be Bull Run..
Comments: we needed to tie up some loose ends on the Mahoosuc Trail and had never been on the Grafton Loop Trail (west). Spotted vehicle at eastern trailhead on Rt. 26 Friday PM. Got a lift to Notch Trail off Success Pond Rd. (road ok just go slow) early (thanks Todd). Mahoosuc Notch rocks were slippery and caution needed...Speck Pond very nice and Old Speck summit views were good to the south and west/northwest..once the sun rose a fog came into the valleys and views north disappeared, but around 1 PM all cleared and we had a great view from Sunday River Whitecap, one of the nicest mts around!! Total hike over 20 miles, it felt like a Bonds traverse without any flat walk out!!
