trails: long trail/appalachian trail, griffith lake road, usfs 58, mad tom notch road

conditions: the long trail was wet with snow appearing on the margins right out of the parking lot on mad tom notch road. a fair amount of mud a running water on the trail with up to about 3 inches of wet snow in places. snow diminished down to the griffith lake trail. no real signage here. the trail is also a snowmobile trail and was wet and muddy in spots. when we got close to tabor we bushwacked from the northeast through mostly open woods and hobblebush to the ridge just north of the summit then headed south to the high point. snow covered the ground most of the way. descending we went directly down hitting some wet areas before regaining the trail. forest road 58 is in great shape back to mad tom notch road then is was a short walk back to the trailhead. brook crossings today were not an issue though the is a flooded area around griffith lake that was a bit wet to get through.

equipment: nothing in particular.

comments: headed down to southern vt hoping to miss the snow, but still had a fair bit of slop up high. trails were otherwise very nice and the short bushwack to tabor was a nice open woods walk. some good views from styles, griffith lake and near the summit of tabor through the open woods. thanks to jeremy for a nice hike.
