Paddle Around Round Lake

It's official. The Round Lake Tract is now state land and unifies the Bog River and William C. Whitney areas into the Bog River Wilderness Area.

Canoeists and kayakers may now (officially!) paddle along the northeastern shore of Little Tupper Lake to the channel that passes under the Sabattis Rd. Bridge. According to Rich Preall of DEC Fisheries, the channel is wide and deep and makes for easy access into Round Pond. No motorized boats are allowed in wilderness areas.

Access is from the William C. Whitney Administrative Area, Circle Rd., off of Rt. 30 between Tupper Lake and Long Lake.

There are no designated campsites on Round Lake yet, although primitive camping is allowed at least 150 feet from all water bodies. Preall points out that the fishing regs differ for Little Tupper Lake and Round Lake, including the channel. Check the fishing regs guide!
