Lowe's Path was broken out, and had maybe 8 inches of snow on it. Not enough to cover the ice. We had to use crampons when the trail became steep. Randolph path was not broken out, and we used snowshoes, though there was still only 8-10 inches of snow. There were some difficult places on Randolph where it was tough to scramble over big boulders and narrow areas. On Lowe's Path, just above The Link, there is a blow down that obscures the trail. The trail goes off gently to the left. Look for the big trunk of the tree that fell over the trail and go under it (about 5 feet of clearance until more snow falls) and you will be back on the trail. Don't head off through the brush to the right. It took us about 5 hours to get to the Perch, which has an outhouse and 3 tent platforms and a view, but is still protected by trees. We tried to summit Jefferson but didn't have enough time before dark. -Florrie
