Streams opened up during the January thaw, and I wonder what they are like now.

On Saturday the crossings of the Little River (N Twins trail) were "interesting". It has been quite cold since, but with no new snow I wonder what the bridges are like.

There is a Trail Conditions report by "Unregistered" of a loop to Jennings peak, up Drakes Brook and down Sandwich Mtn. Trail. No mention of what the crossings were like, and no email address given :(

I am hoping to go up Drakes Brook tomorrow (one of my favorite trails in the area) and do not like "interesting" crossings. So I am very interested in any up to date information, either generic or specific.

Thanks!!!

I was with a group over the weekend who had planned to hike the Rocky Branch Trail. We were unable to get behond the first shelter due to high levels of running water. The crossing before the shelter was tricky and we went upstream until we could find a more "comfortable" crossing. We spent two nights at the first shelter, then retraced our steps going out. The crossing that had cause us to bushwack upstream was even higher on Monday morning and we were even more grateful we had found a better place to cross.

Friends of mine altered plans last Saturday to do Mount Potash from the UNH Trail lot because Downes Brooke was moving quickly...

I did a loop up Chickenboro and out Sandwich Notch on Sunday and the one large stream crossing gave me a little pause. I eventually crossed it ok, yet it wasn't as frozen as I would have liked. I have noticed that the Mad River by the house is freezing over nicely these past few days.

Mt. Shaw (Ossipees) (01/21) - the brook along the side was running at a good pace, but the crossings were no problem (I built up partial snow bridges and they seemed to be holding).

Middle Mtn. (Conway) (01/22) - crossings no problem - was able to rebuild the top snowbridge.

Rocket - how do you rebuild a snowbridge?

The stream on the Mt. Cabot Trail that had been running smoothly two weeks ago was frozen solid yesterday with a couple of weak points. We crossed on the log bridge but tested the ice just the same and it seemed strong.
