Mahoosuc Notch Trail from Success Pond Rd to the AT/Mahoosuc Trail is a gentle, well-graded, quick hike of 2.5 miles (45 minutes). Notch itself took 1:10 after years of hearing about it. The only word to describe the conditions in the Notch is "rocky." The hike up Mahoosuc Arm took another 1:25 - just keep scrambling - this can be describewd as "steep, prolonged". May Cutoff and Speck Pond Trail back to Success Pond Rd and a 2.8 mile hike back to trailhead finished the whole loop in 5:20 (including the road walk).

No special equipment - hike carefully, especially in the lower notch where many rocks have moss and where the less than full sun keeps some rocks slippery, even on dry days.

Saw two section-hiking SoBos and a dozen campers and leaders from a girls' camp on the ledges atop Mahoosuc Arm.
