Never in my 35+ years of hiking have I ever parked at a trailhead and not taken one step on the trail, until now! I have changed itineraries, turned around on the trail and shortened hikes but never aborted a hike.

Marley and I set out Wed. morning to hike the Tom, Field and Willey loop. It started as a normal hike, up @ 4AM, on the road at 4:30 and to the trailhead before 5 (yes I know that long drive kills me). Now Marley (my dog) has met his share of bears, moose, dear, rabbits, foxes, fisher cats and chipmunks all with out an incident at all. I did leave one animal off this list because now he has encountered Pepe Le Pew! I never even had my pack on before I noticed a strong aroma filling the air. I looked over at Marley and instantly knew what he had encountered.

I have never had Marley ride in the pick up bed before either, but there was no way he was riding in the cab with me!!!! Thanks to the concoction of peroxide, baking soda and dish soap the smell went away immediately.

I just hope we do not meet up with a porcupine! I lost a dog that way when I was a child (not that I ever grew up).

I have used that concoction many times before and it beats any store bought or homemade remedy hands down.

Could you share formula for your elixir? :)
My Lab likes to play with the critters she finds.

Thanks
