Frozen ground throughout, but the previous rains and wet ground have produced frozen and crystallized structures that break down under weight. While not difficult to walk on, occasional "postholes" can lead to turned ankles. Also many sections of the trail are frozen waterways and traction or skirting the trail into the woods is necessary.

The section of the Monoosnock just North of Elm Street has been logged and the operations appear to be complete. The two blazes just before the clearing (coming from the South) have covered. To get through you just head North through the first clearing then Northeast in the second and the trail continues with blue blazes at the rear of the Northeast corner. The logging operation cleared much of the deadfall along the trail.
