If you look thru the (for example) Vermont Trail Conditions reports, you will see that the links look like this:

http://www.vftt.org/trail/vt/487.html

If you keep going back to

http://www.vftt.org/trail/vt/1.html

all is well. But after this, it gets messed up. The text is correct, but the links start over at

http://www.vftt.org/trail/vt/438.html

I discovered this while reading Papa Bear's trip report of Mendon, which references a trail condition by another group, which is now an incorrect link.

Can anything be done about this? Is it just a 3 digit counter that wraps around?

If the entries are gone, I'd recommend pruning the list that points to them.

This has come up before, and as I recall Darren acknowledged that the frame count does wrap as you observed. Darren's code supporting the trail conditions would need to be rewritten to fix this. Usually Darren deletes the old reports when this problem occurs.

Here is a Wayback Machine archive (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.vftt.org/trail/vt/index.html) that appears to have the Vermont reports you observed were broken.

Here is another search for the entire VFTT site. (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://vftt.org)

Excellent, I found the old report. Thanks!

Excellent, I found the old report. Thanks! And thanks Tom for pointing this out. I'll update the link in my report to point to the Wayback Machine link.

As I recall that was the excellent report by SherpaK, Arm and Brian. We gave the name "Brian's Cairn" to the second cairn up the road. I wonder if that cairn is still there?

Thanks for fixing the link(s).

I'm told that there are now 3 cairns along the road. The first 2 are as you encountered them. The 3rd is apparently where you came down from the summit of Mendon.

As far as old trail conditions, perhaps the Google "cache" thing might work. As mentioned already there are a bunch of web archivers around too.
