Solid work. Back when people could think straight, without being afraid that a twitter mob would demonize them. Lots to be thought about here, and some solutions are pretty easy.

Peakbagger, good analysis. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge; you have a lot more power grid knowledge than anyone else here.
I agree with your analysis, but not with the conclusion. Two...
Interesting. Had not seen "gravity storage" before. Cute idea. Basically building an artificial mountain, and then using artificial weights instead of readily available water. I'm sure it works,...
Thanks again, Peakbagger.
So, let's get going building the pumped storage facilities. One was just shot down in the Catskills, by the same people that profess to want the grid to work this way.
Thanks, Peakbagger. I'm familiar with the GE debacle. They did get into production, but the batteries were too fragile. And they were never really intended for grid support use (not NEARLY enough...
Reality:

Now if you REALLY WANT intermittent power sources for the grid, go ahead. I have no problem with this. But be ready to...
I'm not a big believer in signs; many people ignore them. But signs like these do make sense, especially if they are large, simple, and clear.
I have seen these in other parts of the country as...
Exactly.
For much of today's population, convenience is a higher priority than cost. If you put obstacles in the way, a good portion of the users will try whatever kind of workaround they can...
It's a smallish lot. 15, maybe 20 if everyone squeezes in? Friday is probably a better bet. Last time I was there was on a Saturday about 4 years ago, and we were the last car to fit at about 8...
Details for the Town of Keene Shuttle are now up on the Town website, linked above.

For this year, the shuttle from Marcy Field to the Garden will be operating beginning July 2 at 7 am.
The details are not yet up on the Town website, but will be up soon.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. "AMR" = Ausable Mountain Reserve" which for hiking purposes is the same thing as the Ausable Club.
I'm pretty sure there are no permit systems anywhere else....
No change from last year.
The only location with a permit system is the AMR. Parking fee is of course in place at the Loj. Otherwise, no new parking, no new parking closures.
This year is not...
I let the thread settle a bit.
Me too dog owner. Our dog is a sweetie, and we follow the rules (although we did get caught once with him off leash in the ADK High Peaks, but there was no harm.) ...
Permethrin does not work well as a repellent on human skin:

Permethrin is broken down quickly by skin oils and becomes ineffective. ...
Classic Straw Man. Should be in the dictionary as an example.
So there's NOTHING AT ALL in between EVs and "coal?" Weird world, I guess...
As an add-on, I've also seen crews attach a square plastic milk crate to a frame or a pack board. It's a good way to support things like chainsaws or other heavy odd shaped things.
At 1800' here in Keene, more than a foot on the ground this morning (maybe 15"?). But with the warm temps, it quickly settled. When I cleared the driveway midday, it had settled to about 10"; looks...
AC Parking is on private land, but it within the blue line. The blue line defines the boundary of the entire Adirondack Park. But the park is a mix of public and private land (currently about 50%...
The squalls were amazing on Sunday! Glad you completed these three hikes. I have been up Goodman and Coney, but not Arab. Agree there is nothing at all steep there.
Not sure why a guidebook...

Appreciate the real-time updates. Encouraging progress. Keep on keeping on!
So a more serious answer:
Bottle in a coozy works. I agree that I seldom need more than 2l.
Bottle in a coozy with a chemical hand heater is very sure to remain thawed, even though it's a...
For me it's always been back of hand. Palm position interferes with grip on ice tools.
Direct contact with skin. Never been burned. Need all the heat I can get with Reynaud's.
