You've seen my setup in the field. I have an 85L Osprey something-or-other (Aether? Probably aether.) I got a -20 REI-branded down bag that was pretty reasonably priced to start with, then on sale,...

The Bridgers are what we recommend in the AMC Boston winter hiking program for anybody who doesn't want the Toundras for whatever reason.
The Toundras are "big and burly" by normal boot standards...
Which repair center did you work with? I have a heel strap that broke off and needs replacing and was dragging my feet because I didn't want to pay to ship the whole thing. If they can send parts for...
Steve said he'll list it once he has them in stock; there were definitely printing delays.
I've used a Buff for most of the summer, easy to pull up when passing people and provides a little protection. Fold it over for two layers and it's pretty good.
I did the Twins last week wearing a...
It goes into the SAR fund which funds equipment, training, etc. I don't know if the OT budget for the COs comes out of that or not.
This case aside (which I'm not going to evaluate), I personally...
I suspect it's possible the SD card was damaged. It's also possible the internal memory was damaged, although seems less likely. You can try popping the SD card into another reader and see what's on...
Not "fairly inexpensive", but I use Ourdoor Research Revel mitts. Haven't used them a lot (I don't hike a lot in 30 degree rain) but they definitely do the trick.
Was on the 'cats yesterday and...
The brook gets pretty braided in there with plenty of tributaries, lots of "do I cross this one or follow the bank?" Probably depends on how much rain lately (and maybe it's easier out than in), but...
Right now nobody can ski in Vermont; there's no snow. The map is updated every week; a few weeks ago basically all of NH was fine; things will be different again (how, who knows) by ski season.
Most of the shelters/tentsites are within the state park system (which includes reservations, forests, etc.) There's apparently one NPS-managed shelter, which is also closed. I'm pretty sure stealth...
WHP is probably going to be somewhat different this year, but it's still one of the best ways to meet people who are interested in taking new people on winter backpacks. There aren't too many groups...
Appalachian Trail shelters, campsites, and privies within the Massachusetts state parks system are closed for the 2020 hiking season. Linked from the ATC closure page.
Star Lake is gone.

It happens all the way up...Dover and Rollinsford are in the middle of a long-simmering boundary dispute (there's a road that's either on the town line or just barely entirely in one town or the...
Vermont, too...I'm sure a lot of folks winding up in NH had or would have had Vermont plans.
It's always bursty, typical of a relatively low-frequency Poisson process. The last couple of weeks have been pretty busy; they just don't always spur discussion.
F&G handles public release of...
People are using the term for several different but related things. Mats specifically did unsupported single push (plus push-ups on the summit) and was the first in modern times to resurrect the...
Great. Now I'm going to have to carry my license plate up.
More seriously, I suspect the end result would be somewhat higher pressure on Lakes. Little of the road and cog crowd would go down...
I think the smaller scale is mostly having the effect of people staying closer to Laconia, same density smaller area rather than lower density over the same area. The pictures from Laconia are still...
It is often dry this late in the year, so I wouldn't rely on it.
Don't even need to go that far. Just take your plates off; you'll fit right in. Or get a piece of paper, write "Motor Vehicle Plate 097XUX" on it and slap it over the RI plates.
There is no patch for the BRT (you don't go over all the list peaks) and there is no legal camping in the Belknaps outside of the frontcountry site at Gunstock.
