I hope he was good a finding a route around the crevasses.

I bet it was a young bear that found himself in an area he wanted nothing to do with but was having touble finding a way back to the trees

Though rare, wildlife does occasionaly venture up high into the mountains. On Denali there have been sightings of a grizzly bear at 13,600 feet (10,000 feet above treeline). There was even a red squirrel who lived at 12,500 feet for a climbing season (probably was a stow-a-way living off of scraps).

On Kilimanjaro, elephant carcassas have been found at 14,000 feet.

Even Mt. Washington receives some strange visitors from time to time, like black bear and moose... (and even a few hippos in the summer at the summit sign getting their pictures taken while smoking a cigarette) :D
