In the spirit of 'Bobcat vs Kitty', we have an article about a coyote attack on an elderly man's dog, only 30 miles from New York City:

Coyotes are rumored to frequent Van Cortland (spelling?) park in the Bronx as well. Apparently most people mistake them for dogs, giving them camoflauge. I've also seen one just outside of Peekskill, not too far from Croton. They're everywhere!

I see coyote scat on almost every hike in the Hudson Valley. Am I scared of them? No..... I think it's good to be aware of the fellow creatures we share our woods with but refuse to let myself wallow in the culture of fear the media often seems to promote.

If they're in Central Park, on the ISLAND of Manhattan, then they're everywhere.
If they get off I95 and come in through Harlem, they avoid the tolls, too.

I suspect that cute and cuddly bobcat had similar intentions. Coyotes are quite the opportunists. Even up here on the edges of the Catskills they seem to prefer the easy pickings on the edge of civilization rather than the back country. Glad to hear the bichon is OK.

Sadly the Central Park coyote died after capture from poisons he had ingested before being captured.
