I don't know if anyone else is interested, but I am. This site is very helpful in a number of ways, one is helping narrow the gear search. My gear list changes based on the type of hike, obviously. I also like to upgrade once in a while. I wouldn't ask for an accounting of every band-aid, but would be interested in major categories: name, make, weight, rating, positives and negatives, if you'd care to share.

Here's my Spring/Summer:
Pack: Kelty Shadow, 4500 ci, 3lb 10oz, light and roomy
Pad: Exped Foam Air Mat 9, 2 lb 3 oz, inflatable core and foam wrap over 3" thick
Bag: Big Agnes Cross Mountain +40, 2 lb 3oz, incorporated pad sleeve
Tent: Big Agnes Seedhouse, 4lb 4oz, roomy 2 man
Filter: MSR Mini Works EX, 1lb, easy to carry, pump and clean
Stove: Primus Himalaya Vari-Fuel, 14 oz, hot and loud
Headlamp: Petzl Tikka Plus, 3.8 oz with spare batteries, light, bright, multi function
Food: MRE's, Raman, oatmeal, rice, tuna, spam, sardines, oatmeal bars
Bear Canister: Bear Vault multi day, 2 1/2 lbs, roomy and doubles as seat
Water: liter Nalgene's

I'll edit to mention my full pack with food comes in around 25lbs. This is about 20lbs less than it used to be, but I like all my creature comforts, including a couple of dry martini's, free-standing tent and full, comfy sleep pad.

I think its pretty cool that you make a lot of your equipment yourself...very ingenious....and seems WAY light...

Sorry to hijack.

Back to your currently scheduled programming.

The Osprey Aether was not bought, I found a better deal on the Kelty.
My Osprey Switch 40 is a large winter specific day pack. I could cram a light over-night in there if I had to, but the Kelty Shadow is bigger and lighter

I have not backpacked in 8 years but here is my dayhiking checklist. I modify the clothing based on the weather report, but I am generally a fair weather hiker. Food, I generally use 1000 calories for every 4 miles (I weigh 215). I wear a heart rate monitor to determine this. Most of my hikes start and end at the same altitude. It was surprising to me, but within experimental error, elevation gain does not have much effect on calorie expendature as long as you end up at the same elevation at the end of the day. (I guess J. Willard Gibbs really knew what he was talking about.)

Numbers with quotes indicate weight in ounces.
