This was in USA Today 8/1/06:

Splurging on favorite Sports
Sports/Recreational activities on which consumers spent the most money for equipment in 2005 (Billions)

Excercise $5.2
Golf $3.5
Hunting & firearms $3.4
Fishing tackle $2.1
Camping $1.4

My father used to say that fishing tackle was never intended to catch fish, just fishermen.

There was an article today about the rising costs of titanium, more in relationship to bicycles and other high end sports gear. They say prices for Ti bikes and even carbon fiber ones will be rising in the next few years due to increase in the costs of the raw materials and the like.

For Paradox's post, I thought Hiking is Exercise? :)

If you part down a good piece of the $5.2 I'll exercise over & pick it up.

Let's see, two kayaks, more shorts, poly T's shirts fleece then I'll probably ever wear & several pairs of boots. AND I know a certain chicken headed Moderator with more boots than I have. Does the chicken outfit count as gear???????

After hiking down Tuckermans last weekend I would said hikers spend right up their w/exercising. I have never seen so much new equipment, especailly new boots.

Too much...but it's a lot of fun!
