Laurie and I drove down Corey's Road today 12/28 in the middle of the afternoon. As promised, the 'new' trailhead is almost exactly 1 mile further from the old turn around (and gate just beyond). At this point, the road is clearly marked as 'CLOSED', so let the traveler beware!
We found the road to be unplowed after the first parking area, but passable, in a car with studded snow tires and front wheel drive, and driving with a little caution. Total drive time from the highway (Rt. 3) to the p.a. was 20 minutes.
There is only 2-3" of snow on the side of the road here, but we have read trip reports of 2 feet in the higher elevations.
The road is hard packed and icy, but again we did not have any serious problems negotiating the hills and turns. Several vehicles were parked at the summer p.a., including a famous Canadian, and the register indicated various trips to Seymour, Seward, and D/E had recently been attempted. (No word on success). We left a note for the famous person to call us and report on his day, which we will post asap if we receive said report.....
