I just found out I am going to be spending a week for work in Slovenia this coming summer. I have heard the hiking is excellent. Has anyone been to this area or hiked in the Julian Alps? I have started some web research, but was wondering if anyone had personal suggestions on hikes, routes, or books to look into before I go?

Thanks.

Bohinj Jezero

Check out Lake Bohinj - 'near' the base of Mt. Triglav in the Julian Alps.

It is utterly stunning - been there couple of times. Lotsa b&b's (called "pensions"...). Also, the hike to Mt. Vogel is lovely. Last year i went to another peak (forgot the name), BUT passed a mountain lake and HAD to take a bit of a dip - COLD COLD COLD and this was in Sept...

There is a larger city nearby called Bled (pronounced blade) and it is thoroughly the tourist trap, BUT has a nice outdoor store where you can get canister gas.

Enjoy!
