Date of Hike: 1/5/08
Mountain: Mt. Monadnock
Trail: White Dot Trail
Trail conditions: a little warmer than yesterday, but still fairly firm packed snow from Park HQ to within 25 feet of the summit.
Equipment: Because the snow is warmer, it tends to move around a little more when you step on it. Today I used Stabilicers and wished I had something with a little more bite: Kahtoolas or crampons. But ultimately Stabilicers were fine. Some barebooted it with little difficulty.
Comments: Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer still and so I expect things to get a little slushy. Peering down the other trails from the junctions, I could see that the Spruce Link, White Cross, and the Cascade Link have all been broken.
