conditions: We encountered 5 to 8 inches of fresh snow on top of a packed trail. The trail is now well packed. There were no blowdowns. There was good snowpack all of the way to Jefferson.

equipment: We used snowshoes the entire trip. These were necessary almost all of the way. Poles and the usual full Winter clothing were necessary.

comments: It was an incredible day to be above tree line. Temperature & winds were moderate. Visibility was great. We were able to slab our way to the summit all the way on snowshoes. You could not have asked for better Winter hiking conditions. Tuco, Andy & I enjoyed running into Poison Ivy & Mountain Bob just bellow the summit of Jefferson (they were the only people we were to see all day. The Jewell is such an enjoyable trail & conditions were perfect. It was a great day.
