Trail Conditions:

York Pond Trail - well packed by skiers

Bunnell Notch Trail - 4" - 6" loose powder over 2" unsupportive crust over 4" powder, partially broken out by skiers. The skiers were able to skim over the top of the crust, showshoes broke through.

Kilkenny Ridge Trail - unbroken. It didn't look as though anyone has been through in the past couple of weeks. The snow began to get deep on the switchbacks. The trail was very difficult to follow with the new snow, low hanging branches, and blowdowns. On the ridge between the cabin and the summit, there was not even a hint of trail so I tried to pick the best line and headed for the top. I did see several yellow blazes but they are either at snow level or buried beneath. The tracks are meandering but will lead you to the summit sign. It's within site of the trail directional sign but hidden behind low hanging branches. There is no indication that anyone has continued on to the Bulge or Horn from Cabot.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes are a must. The trail is broken but no where near packed.

Comments: There are a lot of little streams that are covered in snow. Careful when crossing them.
