Conditions: Trail consists of light, fluffy snow and is well broken out from trailhead to summit. The plowed lot allows ample off-road parking.
Special Equipment: Because of the snow-depth and lack of hard-packed snow, you’ll be most comfortable on snowshoes, or possibly backcountry skis.
Comments: Had some business in Hanover, NH today, and had enough time left over to cross the river over to VT for this short 1.5 mile round-trip hike. From the fire tower atop Gile Mountain, there’s a good 360 degree panorama view which includes peaks such as Ascutney, Killington, Ellen & Abraham, and Mts. Cube & Smart. The more interesting view (at least to me) is of Moosilauke and a portion of the Franconia Range. However, that particular view is quite distant, and is not what you might call “up close & personal”!
