Conditions: Snow showers, overcast, fog at higher elevations, no wind.

Special Equipment: Crampons, Ice Axe (for pitch just below Lions Head), Sunglasses or Goggles for "Snow Glare"

Comments: Stayed at Pinkham Friday night so we could get an early start Saturday. That paid off as we were able to get hiking by 8:00AM. Base conditions were packed trails up to the start of Lions Head Winter route where we put our crampons on. An inch or so of powder here until up above Lion's Head. The climb from here was in and out of thick fog where at a few times we lost sight of the group in fornt of us that were only about ten or fifteen feet out ahead of us. Snow depth increased as we made our way up the summit cone but due to the heavy amount of hiker traffic on this day, trail was packed. We made the summit, where we joined at least twenty five to thirty other climbers just hanging out. I've been on this summit quite a few times and never experienced the still that was on 3/15/08. Pretty much no detectable wind and moderate temps for at least Mt Washington standards this time of year. An uneventful day for the most part. Lion's Head Winter route very heavy with hiker traffic on this day. I'm assuming because it was the last "official" day on the calendar for a winter asscent. Much thanks to "Gadget" for his superb planning and good sense of humor making it another great day out on the "Rock Pile"....
