Again Ishmael and I tried to get up Mansfield from Rt 108 on the Long Trail but were thwarted by deep snow and running out of time. We got just below the col (100' vertical) but could not move uphill due to deep heavy powder (over 3'.).
Ran into many skiers (some literally) coming down from the top, they had taken the gondola and then had about a 45 minute walk to the top. At roughly 3000' elevation, the Long Trail comes within 50' of the ski trails. So next time in similar conditions I will take the Long Trail to the Ski Trail and walk up to the gondola station and follow the line of skiers to the top.
At any rate it was a beautiful day up there.
