Attempt at Flat Mountain Pond Trail starting from the Eastern side.
Date attempted March 30.
Conditions were hard pack snowmobile trails to the first turn off to the actual trail the snowmobile trail is not listed on my map, but it continues on straight.
From here snowshoes were needed, especialy as the day got warmer and the snow got softer.
When we got to the junction of FMP Trail and McCrillis Trail an arrow indicated FMP Trail went to the right along with the McCrillis Trail, so we did. After a while we realized our mistake, but continued wandering around pretty aimlessly and taking in the forest and the streams. Just a beautiful day to be out.
Upon our return to the sign we realized the arrow was incorrect, and we should have continued on straight. Someone had simply drawn an arrow in and it looked pretty normal from a short distance away. Perhaps an early April Fools trick for us.
We ended up leaving the snowshoes on all the way back to the car, amazing how much snow conditions can change in one day.
