Trail Conditions: There was still snow covering about 75% of the trail, and where there isn't snow there is a lot of mud and water. The snow is mostly only on the trail, because it's been compacted by all the winter hikers. The snow is the consistency of mashed potatoes (I read that in another recent post and it is the perfect description), and wasn't all that hard to walk on in bare boots. There were HUNDREDS of people and dogs on the trail, but plenty of room for everybody to go at their own pace.

Special Equipment Required: Sunscreen!! Sunglasses! There was a lot of sun and no leaves for shade. Bare boots were fine and almost nobody was using any traction devices, except a few telemarkers with climbing skins. You want to be wearing waterproof boots.

Comments: This was my first time ever hiking up to watch the skiers at Tuckerman and it was a hoot! There was a definite party atmosphere all the way up and down the trail. There were at least 100 people at the cabin at any given time and another several hundred skiing the ravine. It was a good time!
