Mt. Klem, Rand Mountain, West Quarry Mountain via Round Pond Trail, Mt. Klem Loop, and Quarry Trail
Date of Hike: Thursday, May 8, 2008
Trail Conditions: Dry ground, mud, ice
Special Equipment Required: DEET
Comments:
First part of Round Pond Trail (below the field) is a little bit muddy from the recent logging. Also muddy above the field. Two small patches of ice remaining near the height of land.
Mt. Klem Loop to Mt. Klem mostly dry with a few minor blowdowns.
Quarry Trail to Rand Mountain dry, brook crossing no problem. A few minor blowdowns, and a somewhat pesky one just before the summit.
Quarry Trail to West Quarry Mountain dry, *no logging this year!* (unlike on the other side of Quarry Mountain), a few minor blowdowns.
Black flies were somewhat heavy on the north side of the ridge, but not too bad on Rand Mountain or West Quarry.
