Trails (In Order Traveled): Nineteen Mile Brook Trail, Carter-Moriah Trail, Carter Dome Trail, Carter-Moriah Trail, Carter-Dome Trail, Nineteen Mile Brook Trail

Mileage: 14.2

Trail Conditions:Nineteen Mile Brook Trail was clear with some muddy spots, but nothing notable. We loved the bridges over the steam, which were probably the most solid we've been on. Took a left at Carter-Moriah Trail to head up Carter Dome. Summer trail conditions the entire way up. Great views, no blow downs to speak of. After Carter Dome, we encountered several hundred yards of snow covered trail (several feet deep). We barebooted it without too much PHing, but that will be harder to do as the snow softens. Some blowdowns encountered with more predicted to appear once the snow leaves. Trail from Zeta Pass over to Middle Carter was in need of work. Several blowdowns that were fairly easy to get around, but there were a few harder ones between South and Middle. Trail to South needs to be renamed Moose Crap Trail. Did not see any evidence of other human traffic heading from South to Middle. Believe we were the first ones there in quite a number of weeks. Larger patches of snow encountered and made some pockets in it for the steeper descents. Hit Middle then turned around. Carter-Dome Trail down (1.9 miles) seemed endless. Two relatively easy stream crossings and some mud. Trail was in fairly good condition.

Personal Note: If you decide to hit the three peaks, we both agree that our circuit was the ideal route. The route up to the Dome would have sucked doing it the other way (knee killer) and the trip up to Zeta Pass would have been a slog. Great day overall on the trail and we managed to miss any rain in the area. See My Photos link in my signature for photos from the day.
