New parking area a few 10th's north of Hurricane Mtn. Rd. Trail good, but damp due to last night's rain. Well signed, follow herd path across open field to sign on other side, (west). Trail wet, muddy and slippery from here to Shingle Pond. From Shingle Pond Trail becomes rough and hard to follow. Overgrown with Hobblebush and lots of blowdowns. Past brook the trail is overgrown with spruce. Very much like a bushwhack at many points. Marshy area is very wet and best to stay left in the woods. Above the marsh the trail is covered in blowdowns, very difficult going, hard to go around many blowdowns, must go over or under. Mosquitos were atrocious, worst ever in 10 years.

Special Equipment: Might want a saw and some loppers. Definitely long pants and probably sleeves. Pint of DEET.

Turned back near summit when thundershower rolled through. Made mosquitos even more voracious. Sun back out became hot and humid again.
