I have seen more than a few "ghost" moose this year pale from blood loss to winter ticks. The infestation causes moose to abrade their hair as they try to rid themselves of the ticks, which leads to skin infectons as well. I've seen more moose infested with summer ticks too. I suppose it's all part of a natural cycle but sad to see in any event. AP report is here. Avoid bedding down where signs of moose and deer presence are evident.
