This species is not listed in my Flowers of the White Mountains book and frankly, I've never seen nor heard of it.

I checked my copy of the book as well as a much older edition from the '60s. I couldn't find it anywhere in either of them. Thankfully we have the internet as an easy resource!
 
You indeed nailed it; silverling. I'd never seen it before and it's on the rare list for NH. At the request of one of our plant expert members, who also identified it as silverling (paronychia argyrocoma), I have removed reference to location.

The pic of small cranberry is a bit confusing because the flowers are poking through the leaves of a different species. I didn't look closely enough at them at the time because I thought the blooms had gone by.
