Loop Hiked from Kelly Stand Road 8/23 & 8/24

Trail Conditions: Lye Branch Trail from Bourn Pond to Stratton Pond has massive blow downs creating a challenging obstacle course. Apparently a micro-burst several years ago led to significant blow downs, subsequent beaver activity has resulted in flooding and further collapse of trees. Being a wilderness area chain saws are prohibited. Much of the area has been rendered relatively passable by crews using hand saws, but they have been unable to keep up with continuing tree falls. As we were not in a hurry navigating the area was not too stressful, even for the relative novices among us. Mid sized dogs were a bit stressed but also managed. Allow at least an extra 1/2 hour due to various obstacles.

Loop around Stratton Pond was very muddy on the Western side, not bad on the east. The LT from Stratton Pond across Stratton Mtn and to Kelly Stand Rd. is very well maintained not too much mud.

No special equipment needed. Goretex boots kept the water out, trail runners got soaked a few times.
