Trail Conditions: Trail in great shape from the campground to Eagle Link. A few mud pits started appearing between there and the Rainbow trail, a few of which were real boot swallowers, but all workable with a little effort. Perkins Notch shelter is very wet and muddy all around it. Water crossing at the former Spider Bridge was doable with dry boots (river gauge at Gilead ME was at 3.35 ft). Much higher, and you will have to ford it, although still doable.

Special Equipment: Poles to find the stepping stones hiding just under the surface of the mud pits.

Comments: Great area of the Whites, to avoid crowds.
