Trail Conditions: Surprisingly dry considering the deluge of the night before. A few areas of standing water that could be easily circumnavigated.

Special Equipment Required: Poles are by no means necessary, but could be useful (we left ours in the car and wished we had brought them).

Comments: We were in Holyoke for a wedding the night previous and decided with the nice weather on Sunday that it was worth getting out (especially since we haven't had much time this year). Picked this hike using the "50 Hikes in Massachusetts" book. A bit more rugged than I expected and some very good views. The top of Mt. Tom is kind of hideous though with the multitude of communication towers up there; I almost wished we had just turned back at the last big clearing before hitting the top. Took about 2.5 hours round trip with a lot of stopping for views. Got buzzed by some Blackhawks flying manuevers in the valley which was neat.
