Attempted this loop on Monday the 8th of Sept.
Went up from Kelley Stand road on the stratton pond trail which was in great shape. As soon as Stratton pond was reached, the shelter had a hiker telling us the south route around the pond was in horrendous shape, so naturally we attempted the north route. Very muddy and a LOT of deep water over the trail. At one point, one of our dogs was in over her head swimming to reconnect with the trail. Temporary bridges made it somewhat possible, but the going was very very slow. Spent the night at the north tent site, where we had two other groups drying gear out and saying the trail to Bourn was impassible due to blow-downs and beaver activity. They also said the branch pond trail up to the douglas shelter was in terrible and impassible shape. After hearing this news, and with the forecast of a lot of rain all day tuesday, we woke at 5am and were back at the car by 8am, when the showers, i mean, deluge just started coming down for about 4 hours.
