Dry at bottom. 1/3 way up found crunchy snow. 2/3 way up traction almost necessary. Above treeline snow varied from 1" to 18". Very unstable and rather treacherous. Snowshoes would have been nice, but almost overkill. Rock hopping on the exposed rocks was simplest.

Was aiming for Washington again, but face numbing winds and some thick clouds turned me around. Blue skies when I got back to the parking lot. Earlier posting claimed "Winter in the Whites is here"....they weren't kidding!! :)

I failed to bring bellaclava so the wind became too much of a factor. Margin for error to thin. Happy to turn back and hike another day.
