Trail conditions:Trail in this short section is in very good shape... we had no navigational issues. The trail relocation, which adds 1.3 miles to the mileage in the 10th edition guidebook, is very well blazed and easy to follow. Had a little trouble with the steep descent down Mayo Hill -- lots of slippery leaves made it a bit of a challenge to keep from sliding.
Comments:There are a few interesting side trips along this section -- leading to a dam on Richard's Reservoir, a huge old beaver dam and the Point, a bunch of rocks overlooking the reservoir, which made for a nice lunch spot. This section took us a little longer than we thought it would -- but we started later than usual and took all the side trails too, so maybe we were dawdling more than usual. Nice view of Monadnock following the trail relocation. A nice hike with great company.
