Mt. Black via Algonquin Trail
Date of Hike: Sunday, November 23, 2008
Trail Conditions: Dry trail, dusting of snow, some ice up high
Special Equipment Required: Light traction just in case (barebooted)
Comments:
Sandwich Notch Road still open, though there are a few icy spots.
Algonquin Trail was in pretty good shape up past the col at the 27XX Black Mountain. From there, there were some icy spots. Scrambles were all doable.
Continued past Black Pond Trail junction and height of land, but decided to turn back due to winds and potential incoming snow storm.
A dusting to an inch of snow.
Water crossings no problem.
There were 3-4 minor blowdowns, but my saw (as well as my hands) was frozen shut.
