Mt. Starr King, Mt. Waumbek via Starr King Trail
Date of Hike: Saturday, November 29, 2008
Trail Conditions: Dry trail, wet trail, packed powder, loose granular
Special Equipment Required: None
Comments:
Only a dusting of snow at the trailhead, so parking is still accessible for 2WD. Snow increases to a few inches after a few hundred vertical feet, with a few wet spots (easily avoided). A foot of snow or so along the ridge, but trail is well packed, so most folks were barebooting without postholing. I wore my snowshoes between the peaks.
I was able to remove all of the blowdowns up to Starr King. One blowdown remains between Starr King and Waumbek, but it's pretty minor and frozen into the snow.
