Started near the chapel at Sugarloaf Ski area parking lot, walked east over to the condos at Bigelow Mtn Road. At the far end of this road are signs leading 50 yards along an XC ski trail over a brook to the blue-blazed trail leading to the right up Burnt Mtn.

Trail is in good shape, no blowdowns, packed out for the most part. There was over a foot of snow and I wore snowshoes but I didn't really need them. Above treeline it is hard-packed and a bit icy - traction from snowshoes and/or Yaktrax was very helpful at this point. Great views from the summit.

From there, bushwhacked the ridge over to a backcountry ski trail on Sugarloaf. Snowshoes essential in the woods. Snowshoes, microspikes or crampons essential on the upper ski slopes. Swiss bob would be helpful on the descent. Upper ski area is not open yet.
