Little Ball Mountain, Big Ball Mountain via Mt. Shaw Trail, Tate Mountain Trail, and Banana Trail

Date of Hike: Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Trail Conditions: Dry trail, patches of ice

Special Equipment Required: Traction packed (we barebooted with minimal issues)

Comments:

The warm weather on Monday did wonders to make this stretch of trail much easier.

Significant ice on the Mt. Shaw Trail when it's adjacent to the rapids. Some ice on the Tate Mountain Trail just above that as well. Careful footwork can get one around the ice without traction.

Above that on the Tate Mountain Trail, only a few isolated patches of ice.

Banana Trail to herd path to Little Ball Mountain - patches of ice, otherwise fairly easy going.

Banana Trail to Big Ball Mountain - patches of ice, steep scramble bypass is still *very* icy - recommend bushwhacking around it to descend into the col.

Trails still clear from blowdown removal on Sunday, other than a few old ones that will need chainsaw (step over).
