Gunstock Mountain, Belknap Mountain via Gunstock Mountain Trail, Saddle Trail, Blue Trail, Green Trail, and Carriage Road
Date of Hike: Saturday, December 20, 2008
Trail Conditions: Powder
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes
Comments:
Gunstock Mountain Trail had a few branches down, good to go. Depths ranging from 6-18", mostly about a foot deep. Still kind of borderline for snowshoes, but upcoming storm should change that.
Saddle Trail and Blue Trail from Gunstock to Belknap - Saddle Trail generally in good shape, though I think there may have been a blowdown (followed previous tracks, which seemed to perhaps stray from trail in one part). Blue Trail had a few blowdowns - should be good to go (may have been one widowmaker remaining, but I don't remember at this point). Depths ranging from 6"-2' (drifts).
Green Trail - a few blowdowns - removed all but one or two (running low on time). One pesky one remaining near bottom of northern powerline trail reroute, probably can be cleaned up with a small handsaw and 15 minutes. Snow ranging from 1-2 feet.
Carriage Road - Decently packed out, 0-12" (0" on a maybe 500' stretch of wind exposed road, otherwise generally about 12" of snow, except near gate). A few blowdowns that will hamper automobile traffic, but no issues for skiers and snowshoers.
