Trail Conditions: Stratton Pond Rd is plowed for the first quarter mile with parking spots for about 4 vehicles (I’d plan on shoveling if you have more). The AT was broken out all the way to the Horns Pond Shelter Outhouses (as MEB stated, someone must have really had to go poop!) :D. We broke trail from there the last .6 miles to the summit of South Horn. On the way back we took the Horns Pond Trail to Firewarden’s Trail and out that way. The Firewarden’s Trail up to the Bigelow Col looked broken out by a few people. The water crossing at Stratton Pond was high and all of us walked thru the thigh deep water, except JC who did a loop over the ice. If you don’t have waterproof boots, and are a little adventurous, this is probably the way to go.

Special Equipment Required: All of us wore snowshoes for the trails and some barebooted the Stratton Pond Road (which had been heavily snowmobiled).

Comments: Another stellar day with awesome views! We even had lots of strange monkey sightings along the way…
