If a basic GPS emergency device can be labelled as 'cute', this is it:

Has some interesting possibilities for an inexpensive ocean navigation where topography is mostly moot, on daytrips, one could mark the launch and simply use the Backtrack to get back to it at the shortest path possible, without factoring current and winds of course. In fact, I saw it posted on a kayak forum.
