Initial section from the Kancamagus Hwy to the Nanamocommuck ski trail was well packed in by snowshoes and skis. Swift River crossing was very well iced over and presented no problem.

The 'muck ski trail was lightly broken in to the west (headed up it for bit and turned around) and looked completely unbroken to the east (we didn't go that way).

Unfortunately, the trail is open to snowmobiles between the 'muck trail and Hancock Notch Trail. I don't know if this is a recent development or it's been this way for years, but it was pretty annoying to suddenly by on a wide packed trail and share it with the aa -- I mean lovely people -- on their giant lawnmowers, leaving the fragrance of two cycle exhaust in their noisy wake.

The Hancock notch trail appeared to be unbroken and untraveled recently (we didn't go that way).

The Sawyer River Trail between the Hancock Notch Trail and Sawyer River Road was unbroken and was very slow going due to undulating terrain and several small stream crossings melting out in the recent thaw.

Sawyer River Trail is now well broken for skis between Sawyer River Road and Sawyer Pond.

Sawyer Pond was lovely, of course.

Special Equipment Required:
Snowshoes or Skis a must.
