It had rained Friday night, then freezing temperatures overnight left crusty conditions. With permission from the ski area, we hiked the Green Weaver ski trail to the warming hut, then on to the summit to the far end of the ridge. The ridge was a combination of ice and wind blown snow, sometimes to a depth of several feet. We looked longingly towards the Horn, but are saving that for another day.

To keep from potentially damaging the sides of the ski trails, we kept our snowshoes on. For the ridge, we changed into Microspikes, and they were fine for the icy conditions we faced. Eye protection from the wind was essential, too.
